Review of Cold Fire by Elaina Ellis
When we read a new book, we always discover the best side of human beings. This has also happened after reading a novel written by a talented new author. Her name is Elaina Ellis, but she likes to sign her novels like Jaden, a sort of Nickname used when she writes her works. Her most important novel is titled Cold Fire and tells a story made of adventure, love and passion.
The major characters of Cold Fire are Jaxon Good, named only Jax, and Cassidy Irons, two stunning guys, really. He is a muscular fireman who loves to wear tight jeans and bandana when he doesn’t go to work, Cassidy, is a brave and bold journalist with curly blond hair and azure eyes. The fact that makes Jax and Cassidy meet is very painful and traumatic: Jax saves a little girl by a fire occurred in the hallway of an elementary school.
The six year girl, called Madelyn, was shoved in a locker by another girl: Surana Cage, a ten year child with behavioural troubles who has bullied the little Madelyn. The rescue of Jaxon Good gets fame very soon and the man finds himself on all the page of newspapers. Cassidy, as a good reporter, decides to interview Jaxon to deepen better the causes of the fire at the elementary school.
The meeting between them is rude and in some way also violent, but thanks to it, Cassidy discover that Jax keeps in his heart a sad reason that lead him to risk his life to save people from the flames. There is no need to say that Cassidy and Jax fall in love, but this feeling is severely shaken by a series of events that endanger the same life of Cassidy. The woman, in fact, manages to discover that Surana Cage is the daughter of the Major Paul Cage and the niece of Shane Moran, Principal of the Elementary school where the fire happened.
Cassidy follows the rules of the investigative journalism and try to reveal the story of the bully Surana Cage and her victim Madelyn to the Tampa Bay Times, the journal where she works. This decision has that Cassidy is kidnapped two times during the Cold Fire story. The father of Surana Cage, Paul, attempts, in all ways, to prevent the story about his daughter is published.
Around this central storyline other stories are developed, such as , for example, the relationships among the colleagues and friends of Cassidy Irons and Jaxon Good, these are the ones between Trista and Roman, respectively the sister of Colt Lopez, the executive of the fire station, and the long time friend of Jaxon, between Colt Lopez and his beautiful wife Elissa, and between Peyton, a colleague of Cassidy, and her boyfriend Randy, a policeman who will defend Cassidy by the risk to be killed because of her work.
Many pages of the book are focused to describe the details of the sexual relationships among the several characters of Cold Fire. For this reason, we believe that this volume is not suitable for children. For everything else, Cold Fire develops stories that relate to the burning issues of the modern age, such as bullying, a real plague for many schools, and the always cruel conflict between the power that wants all is hidden and secret and the right to tell the truth at any cost.
The final stage of Cold Fire is instead very rich of surprises, such as the incredible transformation of Jaxon Good from an insensitive and volatile man to a very kind and lovable person. This change is naturally due to Cassidy, who manages to accept Jaxon Good as he is and to discover his dreadful past.
We prefer not to tell the end of this beautiful and compelling novel, we can only say to read it, because the final pages reveal unexpected events.
