Dear readers, my service to add books in English to an Italian library goes on. I have added another book to the library of my country, in Sicily. The book is titled Kamikaze White Noise by Canadian/American writer/poet, (with Italian family roots in Naples),Nicole I. Nesca. Nicole and her husband, Tony Nesca, run their own independent publishing company called Screamin’ Skull Press – Inside this company, Tony and Nicole Nesca publish only their own books, a kind of literature they define as “renegade, unconventional and rebellious”, literary terms also associated with a tradition called “underground literature”.
Nicole’s Kamikaze White Noise fits these terms and ideas perfectly – it is a collection of three books by Nicole I. Nesca, The Sexual Repression Collection, Kink and Canned. Though not a formal trilogy, the books were written as companion pieces and follow the themes of sexual freedom, emotional frankness and street-carnival logic, all written with Nicole Nesca’s usual free-flowing sardonic wit. Kamikaze White Noise is prose and poetry that assaults the senses, liberates the mind and celebrates life on the edge like a perfect quarter-mile drag race.
This isn’t just a book of prose and poetry but a beautiful streetwise and lyrical telling of a life in pursuit of truth, sex, love, religion-lost and experience. With an alternating rhythm of long free-flowing sentences and short, minimalist statements, Kamikaze White Noise is like nothing on the market today – an original urban street-hymn that harkens to writers of yesterday like Sylvia Plath and also the more modern rock and roll writings of Patti Smith, but always and forever original and unique.
Nicole can be regarded as an expatriate writer, an American living in Canada with Italian roots, and her writing has been compared to writers such as Anais Nin, Sylvia Plath, Patti Smith, even Ernest Hemingway when she employs that sharp, short sentence staccato rendering a perfect balance to her otherwise free-flowing, spontaneous prose and poetry. She is also heavily influenced by the singer/songwriters of the 60’s and 70’s, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Lou Reed and others.
This is beautiful, uncensored writing that sparkles and cuts through all the conventional ideas of current society as well as turning upside down the literature that is offered today.
Kamikaze White Noise is available in printed copy and as an ebook –
