Are you sure to have written a good book?

Everyday, I receive many new books to be read for being reviewed. Many times, I am forced to refuse them because after the initial pages, I notice that I am not reading a good book. Now, I ask to you: Are you sure to have created a good book? This is the main question that authors should wonder after finishing to write their book. The term “good book” doesn’t only refer to the plot, content, title, but a complex mix of items that can influence the success of the book all together.

Usually, readers or book reviewers say to have written a good or an excellent book when all of the mentioned items above match perfectly with the whole structure of the book. For instance, the plot of your book can be wonderful and very interesting, but the content is too poor to be really attractive for readers. In this case, you must rewrite the book or add new sentences and words. What I want to tell you is that you ought to learn playing with words. You should consider the words as sugar for your book. In case of a drama, you should find words which must be like the bitter for your book.

A drama, indeed, has to be seasoned and enriched with bitterness and a bit of sadness. I say a bit because too many sad words can overload the book plot. If you are an aspiring novelist, you should use this advice carefully. When you start writing, learn to dose words and sentences, adjectives and adverbs, don’t be too much in a hurry, stay calm and thought what you want to write, how you would write and what you would convey to your readers. As soon as you start, don’t exaggerate with adjectives, use just two, for instance.

If you are describing a beautiful day, don’t use adjectives such as wonderful, fantastic, unforgettable, fresh, spring all together, choose only a couple of these and check the outcome by reading your sentence. I was a beautiful, spring day, with a fresh breeze…

As you can see, only two simple words, or rather, adjectives, can create a good sentence that in turn can improve the entire structure of your book. In the sentence above, I used only two adjectives: beautiful and spring, while the third adjective “ fresh” has been used to create the second sentence. Each word and sentence have to be arranged as you were writing a poem. Remember: in the literature field, prose never exists, but only a poem disguised like prose. The second side about how to write a good book is the inspiration. When you feel inspired, don’t waste time: write immediately. Inspiration is the only ingredient that allows you to create books written from the heart.

There are many books well written around us, but only from the pen or keyboard, with no emotion and feeling. In the creative writing, technique is fundamental, but with no emotion, no good book can be written. Here is why I say to you: are you sure to have written a good book? To be sure to have written a good book, you should put blood and tears in it, namely deep, inner emotions.

However, nowadays many books go around, but they lack of feeling. The most important tip I want give to you is write only a story you feel like it was really alive in front of you. Before writing a story you must feel it! If you are an aspiring novelist, don’t be ashamed to ask for and advice about your unpublished book. With my advice, you may discover if you have written a good book or not.
